And it’s no wonder that they look out of this world, because the seeds from
which these monster vegetables were grown spent two weeks orbiting the earth.
On their return they were cultivated in giant Chinese hothouses producing the
oversized specimens pictured here, along with a host of other fruit and
vegetables.
Scientist hope the pumpkins, as well as two-foot long (06.m) cucumbers, 14lb
(6.3kg) aubergines, and chilli plants which resemble small trees, could
provide an answer to the world’s food crisis.
It is thought the near zero gravity conditions in space result in super-sized
fruit and vegetables with a higher vitamin content.
Crucially, the plants are said to produce harvests which are ten to 20 per
cent higher than normal - offering a rich source of food for the country’s
1.3 billion people.
Struggling for space in giant hothouses at the Guandong Academy of
Agricultural Sciences are 21lb (9.5kg) tomatoes and enormous watermelons.
Researchers fired off a batch of 2,000 seeds into space in 2006 on the Shijian
8 satellite.
After germination the best specimens were selected for further breeding.
Researcher Lo Zhigang said: “Conventional agricultural development has taken
us as far as we can go and demand for food from a growing population is
endless.
“Space seeds offer the opportunity to grow fruit and vegetables bigger and
faster.”
A total of 22 provinces are taking part in the programme, coordinated by the
China Academy of Sciences, and China says its giant fruit and vegetables
have already been sold to Japan, Thailand and Singapore. There has also been

found thriving in the wild for the first time in the United States. At
the recent Ecological Society of America conference in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, researchers broke the news that transgenic canola is
growing freely in parts of North Dakota.
GM crops have spread from cultivated land to the wild in several
countries, but they have not previously been found in uncultivated land
in the United States.
The scientists behind the discovery say this highlights a lack of
proper monitoring and control of GM crops in the United States.
"The extent of the escape is unprecedented," says Cynthia Sagers, an
ecologist at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, who led the
research team that found the canola (Brassica napus, also known as
rapeseed).
Sagers says the discovery of plants that are resistant to two major
herbicides shows that "these feral populations of canola have been part
of the landscape for several generations."

feminizing, and they're all over the place. You can hardly escape them
anymore. I have nothing against an occasional soy snack. Soy is nutritious
and contains lots of good things. Unfortunately, when you eat or drink
a lot of soy stuff, you're also getting substantial quantities of
estrogens.
Estrogens are female hormones. If you're a woman, you're flooding
your system with a substance it can't handle in surplus. If you're a
man, you're suppressing your masculinity and stimulating your "female
side," physically and mentally.
In fetal development, the default is being female. All humans (even
in old age) tend toward femininity. The main thing that keeps men from
diverging into the female pattern is testosterone, and testosterone is
suppressed by an excess of estrogen.
If you're a grownup, you're already developed, and you're able to
fight off some of the damaging effects of soy. Babies aren't so
fortunate. Research is now showing that when you feed your baby soy
formula, you're giving him or her the equivalent of five birth control pills a day .
A baby's endocrine system just can't cope with that kind of massive

You already know that you
should eat fresh, unprocessed, natural whole foods. But the importance
of raw foods often goes unnoticed. Here’s what you should know about
raw foods, cooked foods and enzymes.

One of the most important aspects of a healthy diet that is most frequently overlooked is the issue of eating your food uncooked, in its natural raw state .
Unfortunately, as you may be aware, over 90 percent of the food
purchased by Americans are processed foods. And when you’re consuming
these kinds of denatured and chemically altered foods , it’s no surprise we have an epidemic of chronic and degenerative diseases.
It is no mystery that you are what you eat.
Ideally you’ll want to eat as many foods as possible in their unprocessed state; typically organic, biodynamic foods that have been grown locally, and are therefore in season .
But the challenge is, even when you chose the best foods available you can destroy most of the nutrition if you cook them.
I believe it’s really wise to strive to get as much raw food in your
diet as possible. I personally try to eat about 85 percent of my food
raw, including raw eggs and meats . And there are a number of reasons for this.
Raw Food is Alive!
The primary reason for making sure you get plenty of raw food in
your diet is due to what’s called ‘biophotons.’ It’s a term you may not
have heard of before, but in Europe, Germany in particular, there’s a

Wisdom says stop a bill that is broad as everything yet more vague even than it is broad.
Wisdom says stop a bill that comes with massive penalties but allows no judicial review.
Wisdom says stop a bill with everything unspecified and actually waits til next year for an unspecified "Administrator" to decide what's what.
Where we come from, that's called a blank check. Who writes laws like that? "Here, do what you want about whatever you want and here's some deadly punishments to make it stick."
Wisdom says know who wrote that bill and be forewarned.

Here's the bill. Let's use our imaginations and extrapolate from the little bit it reveals and from the reality we know.
SEC. 206. FOOD PRODUCTION FACILITIES.
(a) Authorities - In carrying out the duties of the Administrator and the purposes of this Act, the Administrator shall have the authority, with respect to food production facilities, to --
(1) visit and inspect food production facilities in the United States and in foreign countries to determine if they are operating in compliance with the requirements of the food safety law;
(2) review food safety records as required to be kept by the Administrator under section 210 and for other food safety purposes;
(3) set good practice standards to protect the public and animal health and promote food safety;
(4) conduct monitoring and surveillance of animals, plants, products, or the environment, as appropriate;
(5) collect and maintain information relevant to public health and farm practices.
(b) Inspection of Records - A food production facility shall permit the Administrator upon presentation of appropriate credentials and at reasonable times and in a reasonable manner, to have access to and ability to copy

You've probably seen the commercials all part of a frenzied
campaign on behalf of the Corn Refiners Association (CRA) to persuade
you that high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is perfectly safe. s natural
and made from corn, they say. And like sugar, it's fine in moderation.
As a doctor, I can only advise you not to be fooled. The truth is,
there are a lot of reasons to avoid high-fructose corn syrup and
shocking new research has just added one more to this list.
Let's begin with what we already know: A processed alternative to
sugar, HFCS is a favorite of the food industry for its ability to
provide maximum sweetness at minimal cost. But while HFCS might be
cheap to manufacture, you only need to look at statistics to see that
its widespread use over the last 25 years has come at a very high price
to consumers.
Fructose doesn't trigger satiety hormones like other types of
glucose do- one reason why it's been targeted as a prime suspect in the
rising obesity epidemic. But that's not all: Studies have also linked
HFCS to elevated triglycerides, insulin resistance- and even increased
risk of colon cancer.
Finally, when you consider yet another fact - that you'll find HFCS
hiding in a seemingly endless number of processed foods, from yogurt to
soup to salad dressing - moderate intake of this particular ingredient
proves to be a major challenge. In fact, the average total consumption
of HFCS is approximately 13 teaspoons per day - likely even higher
among certain populations, including children and teens.
Andthat's precisely what makes this next piece of recent research sodisturbing.
This past January, a study published in Environmental Health
revealed that nine out of twenty samples of commercial HFCS contained
detectable levels of the heavy metal mercury - presumably, the result
of contamination with "mercury-grade" caustic soda during the HFCS

According to new research, produce in
the U.S. not only tastes worse than it did in your grandparents' days,
but also contains fewer nutrients. In fact, the average vegetable found
in today's supermarket is anywhere from 5 percent to 40 percent lower
in minerals such as magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc than those
harvested just 50 years ago.
Today's vegetables are larger, but do not contain more nutrients.
Jumbo-sized produce actually contains more "dry matter" than anything
else, which dilutes mineral concentrations.
An additional problem is the "genetic dilution effect," in which
selective breeding to increase crop yield has led to declines in
protein, amino acids, and minerals. Breeders select for high yield,
effectively selecting mostly for high carbohydrate content. And
finally, as a result of the growing rise of chemical fertilizers and
pesticides, modern crops are being harvested faster than ever before,
meaning that produce has less time to absorb nutrients either from
synthesis or the soil.
